Karim Rashid for Georg Jensen - Tripartite stainless steel dish, Denmark, second half of the 20th century.
Large serving dish or centerpiece resting on a circular foot, the bowl formed by three rounded cavities merging into a fluid, organic composition. The polished surface reflects the light and enhances the purity of its lines.
(Marked on the reverse: “GEORG JENSEN - DENMARK”)
Excellent condition.
Biography:
Founded in 1904 in Copenhagen, the Georg Jensen house is one of the most prestigious Scandinavian silversmithing and design manufacturers. Renowned for combining artisanal craftsmanship with modernist aesthetics, it collaborated with major figures of 20th-century Danish design. Its creations, whether in sterling silver, silver-plated metal, or stainless steel, are distinguished by an organic vocabulary and sober forms inspired by nature. This dish illustrates the pursuit of fluidity and functionality, typical of Scandinavian design from the 1950s to the 1970s.
Further details:
Georg Jensen (1866-1935): Founder of the house in 1904 in Copenhagen. A Danish silversmith and sculptor, he shaped the Art Nouveau and later modernist identity of the brand.
Søren Georg Jensen (1923-1999): His son. Also a sculptor and designer, he worked for the family firm and became its artistic director in the 1960s. His style is more architectural, geometric, and modern, in contrast with the highly naturalistic beginnings of his father.
