- The work:

This metal sculpture entitled Miroir, by Auguste Moreau, depicts a young woman in a country dress, her arms raised, arranging her hair. Her graceful posture and gentle expression convey a poetic introspection.

The plant base, embellished with a bird, reinforces the link with nature. The ensemble illustrates Moreau's taste for scenes imbued with the romanticism and delicacy characteristic of late 19th-century French sculpture.

- BIOGRAPHY OF AUGUSTE MOREAU :

Auguste Moreau (1834-1917) was a French sculptor from a famous family of artists. Son of Jean-Baptiste Moreau and brother of Mathurin and Hippolyte Moreau, he specialized in decorative figures, often feminine, imbued with softness and romanticism.

He exhibited regularly at the Salon from 1861. Working mainly in bronze and regule, his works were highly prized in the late 19th century for their bucolic charm and fine detail.

- AUGUSTE MOREAU'S ARTISTIC MOVEMENTS

Auguste Moreau (1834-1917) belonged mainly to the academic art movement of the 19th century, influenced by Romanticism and Naturalism. His style is characterized by elegant, idealized depictions of female figures, children and pastoral scenes.

He was not part of any avant-garde movements, but his works were in line with the bourgeois taste of the time, favoring decoration, grace and a certain poetry of the everyday.

His sculptures, often in bronze or regule, are figurative decorative art, accessible and seductive, halfway between realism and dream.
