In good condition, this sculpture seems to be a workshop plaster, a unique piece with a 'verdigris' patina.
Signed 'P. BAEKE' and dated '58'
Biography:
Paul Baeke was born in 1927, painter / sculptor from Namur (Fernelmont). Paul Baeke was attracted by the living decor: trees, sky, clouds, plains, windy movements, landscapes in bright colors, but also a sculptor, inspired by the human figure and the female nude. Paul never tired of working with cement or plaster to give form to busts with expressive faces, thus representing the mother, the child, the couple. He juggled with shapes and curves, he played wonderfully well on compositions with finesse giving off purity, tenderness and simplicity. This man of art had transformed his home into a workshop, a living space and an almost permanent exhibition as his gift was an intense part of his personality. He died in 2010.
Strength in the technique of other Belgian sculptors such as Willy Anthoons, Jean Purvez, Willy Kreitz, Oscar Jespers, Oscar De Clerck, Auguste Mambour ...
Paul Baeke is a sculptor evolving towards expressionism.
