Superb bronze foundry of the compagnie des bronzes de Bruxelles . Many famous artists came to Belgium to publish their bronzes.
Amédée CHARRON (1837-1884), born in Saint Denis sur Loire near Blois in 1837.
He entered the Ecole municipale des Beaux-Arts in Poitiers, then, with the architect Beausoleil, directed the Saint-Hilaire factory, which was actually located near the Saint-Jean baptistery in Poitiers.
This important workshop produced a large number of religious sculptures in stone, marble or wood, which were sold in the region and throughout France.
We are particularly familiar with the statue of Sainte-Anne d'Auray, now housed in the former Entrefin priory in the commune of Adriers in the Vienne department, and all the altars in the church at Noirterre, near Bressuire in the Deux Sèvres department. Other altars from this workshop can be found in the churches of Saint Pierre and Notre Dame in Chauvigny, Marigny Brizay, Beaumont, Loudun and Champniers.
