Giuseppe Bessi was a 19th-century Italian sculptor known for his works in alabaster, marble and onyx. His sculptures combined Neoclassicism and Art Nouveau. He taught at Volterra's School of Fine Arts and headed the institution for a time. His works have been shown in international exhibitions and can be found in museums around the world. After his death, his workshop was passed on to his family, who continued to produce handcrafted alabaster works. Giuseppe Bessi was honored by the Italian government with the Order of Merit for Work, and a street now bears his name in Scandicci, Italy.
