Pretty bust of a young lady, with her face slightly in profile, wearing a headband decorated with a frieze of Grecians holding her hair.
She is dressed in a V-neck gown with a decorative braid on the neckline, in onyx with mauve lines.
Alabaster bust on white marble base.
The piece is signed on the back: V Vaerenbergh. It is typical of his production and of the materials generally used by this artist.
Gustave Van Vaerenbergh was a Belgian sculptor (Ghent 1873 - Schaerbeek 1927) who created busts of young women, children, animals and pierrots, using marble, alabaster and bronze, but also produced chryselephantines of acknowledged quality.
