Jozef (Jos) van Acker ‘Ode to Woman (137cm)'.
Bronze in appearance, this green patina wall sculpture was made in resin by the artist and dates from the 1960s/70s.
Recalling the theme of Adam and Eve, the sculpture features four naked women around a tree of life.
Biography:
Jozef VAN ACKER (1937-2024) is a Belgian sculptor, trained at the Royal Academy of Dendermonde with sculptors Jos De Decker and Koen Muller (1961-65).
Numerous study trips in Europe. Works mainly in wood, stone, marble, polystyrene and terracotta. In his later years, some of his works were cast in bronze. Initially worked in the style of his masters; later developed a personal abstract style.
Teacher in the youth workshop at the Waasmunster Academy (1974-80). Member of the Cercle d'Art de Waasmunster.
Works in public collections: Municipality of Waasmunster; POC, Waasmunster; Erezée près La Roche; Château Blauwendaal, Waasmunster; OCMW Temse; BBTK Saint-Nicolas; Michelbeke religious community; Hamme; Moerzeke.
As part of the Waasmunster municipality's ‘Vierschaar-vernieuwing-markt' project, he created four groups of bronze statues on the theme: ‘Waasmunster: village on the Durme'.
As part of the ‘Ommegang priester Poppe' in Moerzeke, he created a bronze group for the municipality of Hamme: Children at play.
Exhibitions in: Waasmunster, Temse, Affligem, Kapelle-op-den-Bos, Zele, Ekeren, Hamme, Nieuwkerken, Sombreffe, Kluisbergen, Beveren, Antwerp, Amsterdam, Venlo/Netherlands and Brasschaat.
Open-air exhibitions in: Waasmunster, Beveren, Zierikzee/Netherlands, Knokke-le-Zoute, Lede, Neeroeteren, Kluisbergen.
