Born in 1958 in the Congo, Olivier De Schrijver attributes his vocation as a designer to his African childhood: “Lost in the bush, when I wanted a toy or something was broken, I had to build or repair it myself.” Having founded his publishing house “Comme chez vous art” 33 years ago, Olivier De Schrijver has dedicated himself to revisiting designs from the 1950s and 60s, reinventing them through a multifaceted recycling process that characterizes the work of the leading Belgian representative of contemporary postmodernist design, following in the footsteps of Peter de Bruyne. At times, Olivier De Schrijver draws inspiration from Vasarely, at others from Hollywood cinema, humorously embracing the vast gap between high and low culture.
