Rare turquoise ceramic half sphere ball vase with crystallizations by Antonio Lampecco made in the 1970s/80s, diameter 29cm. Vase in perfect condition, signed with the monogram LA under the vase. Biography: Antonio Alberto Lampecco (Minucciano, 1932) is a Belgian ceramist internationally known for his spherical (round) vases with small necks. Born in Italy, from the age of thirteen young Antonio worked up to fourteen hours a day in the small Mason factory, right in the middle of the ceramics centre near Venice. For four years, he worked at modelling, seeking out difficulty in order to better express himself. At the age of seventeen, he arrived in Rebecq, Belgium, and continued to work, kneading and turning. Then his luck changed and he was called in Maredsous, in the Abbey ceramics workshop, linked until 1958 to the famous Ecole d'Art. A gold medallist in Monza, Faenza and Prague, winner of the Prix de la Ville de Vallauris in 1982, winner of the Bratislava International Prize in 1984, a retrospective exhibition at the Maison de la Culture in Namur (1979-80), he has been invited almost everywhere, from Berlin to New York, from Montreal to Paris, and has taken part in numerous exhibitions all over the world. Yet Antonio Lampecco has never sought to make a name for himself, and has never claimed any title other than that of potter. Having always focused on simplicity, he sought to create exceptional, impeccable shapes, covered in matt black or polychrome glazes. He was later appointed to manage the art workshops at Maredsous Abbey. Bibliography: Collection Fina Gomez, 30 ans de céramique contemporaine, 1991. His work can be compared to that of ceramists Jacques and Dani Ruelland.
