Rare pair of covered ceramic (faience) vases, signed with the monogram of Joseph Gaspard Robert - Faïencerie de Marseille, 18th century, c. 1760.
This beautiful set is sold as is and can be restored (one handle has been reattached and one lid is missing).
Joseph-Gaspard Robert (1722-1799) founded his manufactory in 1754. This production belongs to the Marseille context of the 18th century, also dominated by the Veuve Perrin manufactory (Marie-Rose Perrin, active 1748-1803), known for its translucent glazes and hand-painted floral decorations. Their productions shared strong similarities (camaïeu designs, polychrome, gilding, turned forms, etc.).
Trained as a painter before running his own manufactory, Robert developed a production of faience decorated with polychrome and gilded motifs, reflecting the transition in taste from Rocaille to Neoclassicism.
