Mr Sandman the robot (Wolverine 1945, No. 44 made in Pittsburgh, PA 1945) is one of the most poetic toys I know.
It's a beach game ingeniously made into a robot: his head is a watering can, his shoulders are a sieve, his body is a bucket, all wonderfully lithographed.
I've owned other Mr Sandman's before, but never in this perfect, shiny-as-new condition, which justifies the high price.
It has its original label and plastic bag, which is a nice touch.
What's more, this is the version with the handle ears on the watering can - an important detail for a collector's toy.
It was produced until 1956 and was sold in a transparent plastic bag with a label. I have the label and the bag.
