Nomura mechanised robot "Robby the Robot" Japon 1957

‘Robby the robot' is the familiar name of the character in the film “Forbidden Planet”, but his real name is mechanised robot. ‘Robby from ‘Forbidden Planet' was an event. When the film was presented in Paris, Robby even drove up the Champs Elysées in a convertible car. Copied by Osaka Tin Toy and many Chinese variations in different colours, it is less and less available in the original Nomura version. This is the second version; the first had grip buttons and round battery doors that were difficult for children to handle. After a few months of production, they were replaced by butterflies, as shown here. Robby is a cult figure and the basis of every collection: a beautiful robot whose pistons are activated in the dome. Robby moves in a semi-circle like many robots, its antennae whirling around. The Robby craze was fuelled by fans of the 1957 MGM film. Other brands such as Alps and Yoshiya produced derivative robots such as Planet Robot or Remote Control Robot, whose heads resembled Robby's, but as they didn't have the licence, the robots were different. The robot is in good condition externally, with no oxidation on the battery compartments. There are a few black paint retouches and its dome has a line in the left-hand corner (not a felony). But finding a Mechanised Robot these days is difficult and, all in all, this robot looks good. It is presented here with a reproduction box.
