These 38 cm-high, battery-powered robots were produced by Masudaya in Japan. Masudaya is Japan's oldest operating toy company, with a history dating back to 1724. Its MT (T over M) logo (for Masudaya Toy) has been in use since the 1920s. In the 1930s, the company set up a modern toy laboratory, then added "Modern Toy" to its logo, suggesting that MT stood for "Modern Toys". It's hard to imagine a toy company approaching 300 years of existence. Masudaya hasn't produced as many robots as other Japanese toy manufacturers. However, it is famous for having produced a series of five skirted robots over a period of seven years. Robot collectors have affectionately dubbed this sought-after group of robots the "Gang of Five". After almost two years of development, Masudaya completed the world's first radio-controlled toy in 1955: a 35 cm-long sheet-metal bus. Among the Gang of Five, the first radio-controlled robot was the Radicon, produced in 1957. Although this was Masudaya's second Radicon, it was technically more difficult to manufacture and stamp.
