Alfred Pietercelie was a renowned Belgian artist born in Antwerp in 1879 and died in Jette, Brussels, in 1995. A painter and decorator, he studied at the Academies of Antwerp, Brussels, and Anderlecht (1893-1900). He exhibited for the first time in 1917 with the group L'Œuvre Nouvelle. His work is characterized by a search for "essential" design, often evoking a sense of peace, harmony, and emotion. He specialized in landscapes of the Brussels countryside, the Ourthe Valley, and the South of France, the latter inspiring a sunnier and more vibrant color palette. He was also a recognized painter of flowers and still lifes. Settling in Jette in 1936, he founded the Cercle de Jette in 1938, remaining its president until his death.
