Signed and dated on the back.
Attractive silver and green frame.
Framed dimensions: 67 x 62.5 cm
Alfred Pietercelie was a renowned Belgian artist born in Antwerp in 1879 and died in Jette, Brussels, in 1995. A painter and decorator, he studied at the Academies of Antwerp, Brussels, and Anderlecht (1893-1900). He exhibited for the first time in 1917 with the group L'Œuvre Nouvelle. His work is characterized by a search for "essential" design, often evoking a sense of peace, harmony, and emotion. He specialized in landscapes of the Brussels countryside, the Ourthe Valley, and the South of France, the latter inspiring a sunnier and more vibrant color palette. He was also a recognized painter of flowers and still lifes. Settling in Jette in 1936, he founded the Cercle de Jette in 1938, remaining its president until his death. Mentioned extensively in the National Biography of the Royal Academy of Belgium, Volume XXXVII. Mentioned in BAS I and Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists.
