Mougin stoneware / Louis Majorelle model, Solomon's Seal beer jug, molded glazed stoneware with vitrified decoration, H 12.5 cm, impressed mark. Lunéville workshop 1924-1936.
The three-digit number in black is repeated on pieces with a unique enameling. Joseph Mougin kept a workshop notebook in which he recorded the composition of some enamels, but it is difficult to refer to it because once he reached 999, he started again at 0....
Model 24.K listed in the book: PEIFFER JG, Les frères Mougin sorciers du grand feu, Dijon, éditions Faton, 2001.
The Mougin brothers began their career as ceramicists together in the late 19th century. After a difficult start in Paris, they returned to Nancy in 1906 and produced works firmly rooted in the Art Nouveau movement. Complete artists, they mastered every stage of their craft, from preparing raw materials to the delicate firing of their pieces. Initially publishing their own designs, they later collaborated with other artists, including Louis Majorelle, Victor Prouvé, Ernest Wittmann, and Alfred Finot, as well as numerous Art Deco artists. Through their creations, which straddled the line between Art Nouveau and Art Deco, the Mougin brothers left their mark on the history of decorative arts.
