Biography:
Roger Guérin (1896-1954) was a renowned Belgian ceramist (Bouffioulx) and friend of Edgard Aubry.
Born in Belgium in 1896, he showed a keen interest in ceramics from an early age. He enrolled at the Université du Travail in Charleroi, where he took pottery classes with Willem DELSAUX.
Moving from the Art Nouveau period to Art Deco, he created vases and sculptures in GrèsSalé Grand Feu in a single firing (1300°). His work is comparable to that of French ceramists such as Auguste Delaherche, Pierre Adrien Dalpayrat, Emile Lenoble, Léon Pointu, Ernest Chaplet, Decoeur, Paul Jeanneney and Jean Carries.
From 1934 to 1939, he was appointed professor at the Université Supérieur des Arts Décoratifs de la Cambre in Brussels.
He was contacted for numerous artistic collaborations and produced pieces for well-known artists and sculptors (both Belgian and foreign) such as Marcel Wolfers, Thierry Van Rijswijck, Domien Ingels and Angelo Hecq, as well as for Cris Agterberg, Cris Lebeau and probably other sculptors from the Amsterdam School in the Netherlands. Vases with wrought-iron mounts are the fruit of a collaboration with Fernand Carion, designer of light mounts and lamp bases for the French crystal manufacturer Muller Frères Lunéville.
Silver medal at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs Industriels et Modernes in Paris in 1925. Exhibited at the Jensen Gallery in New York in 1947.....
