Original burin steel engraving on watermarked laid paper. Engraved by BENARD Robert, (French - 1734/??) These boats were, for the most part, fishing craft designed to navigate in shallow waters, as evidenced by the lateral daggerboards that replace the keel and thus reduce draft. Originally, the engravings were all printed in black and white, then watercolored by hand.
