Important biomorphic fantastic abstract sculpture, brutalist style, circa 1962.
Remarkable and in perfect condition, executed by Yves Rhaye in etched ceramic, Pérignem Amphora generation.
Biography:
Yves RHAYE (Ostend 1936 - 1995 Ninove).
Painter, draughtsman, graphic designer, sculptor, sculptural ceramist, jewellery designer.
Studied interior design, sculpture and painting at the Academy of Ghent, with Robert Heylbroeck (1955-60).
Started as a designer in various ceramic industries, among others in the Perignem workshop in Beernem (1962), where he learned the basic rules of ceramics under the guidance of Laurent Vandeweghe, and in the Florizoon brickworks in Nieuwpoort.
Member of the "Cyanuur" and "Fantasmagie" circles (1960).
He set up his studio in the castle of Voorde near Ninove.
Creates anthropomorphic and biomorphic sculptures (mixing plant and animal elements), humanoid figures transformed into extraterrestrial and fantastic creatures that he executes in terracotta or bronze.
He was elected member of the International Academy of Ceramics.
Exhibitions:
Numerous exhibitions in Belgium and abroad.
First personal exhibition in Ghent in 1962, Galerie Veranneman in Brussels in 1972, Knokke-Heist in 1977, Brussels in 1978, Auxerre 1989.
Retrospective of 20 years, Ixelles Museum in 1980.
Works in the Cabinet des Estampes in Brussels, in the Museums of Ixelles, Ostend, Courtrai, Ypres, Milan, Yugoslavia, South Africa, Germany, Fondation Veranneman, collections of Baron Lambert, Crédit Communal, Générale de Banque, Morgan Guaranty Trust Cy, Museum en Archief Vlaams Cultuurleven in Antwerp, Bibliothèque Royale, Brussels and State collections
