Biography: Thierry van Rijswijck (Antwerp 1911 - Vallauris 1958). Ceramist and sculptor, he studied at the Academy of Arts in Antwerp and specialized in animal sculpture. With his friends and sculptors Albéric Collin and Raymond de Meester de Betzenbroeck. he regularly visited the Antwerp zoo. Works in plaster, clay and bronze and had pieces edited by Roger Guérin in Bouffioulx (Belgium). Around the 1930s, he moved to Paris, regularly exhibited at the Paris Salons. He was very inspired by the Art Deco movement, his work became more stylized although still naturalistic. After World War II, he settled in the south of France, the region of the Côte d'Azur, near Monaco. In 1958, during one of his visits, he died in a car accident in Vallauris.
