Pair of Chinese Fô guard dogs in deep green glazed ceramic. These traditional figures symbolizing protection were once placed at the entrance to homes and temples to ward off harmful influences. Their expressive appearance, stylized manes and decorative scrolls give them great character. The architectural bases, formed of superimposed tiers, underline their stability and sentinel role. The green glaze features subtle nuances and a slight shimmer, accentuating the lively effect of the surface. The bases still bear an antique red wax stamp, indicating that they were exported in the past. Beautiful patina.
