Arthur CRACO (1869 - 1955), Bouledogue, circa 1930, glazed stoneware, 27 cm x 23 x 36, engraved signature + monogram.
Arthur Craco belonged to the Symbolist renovationist group and drew his inspiration from organic forms (plants or animals). He took part in the revival of chryselephantine sculpture and exhibited in the Congolese pavilion at the 1897 Universal Exhibition. Craco worked successively in different studios before coming to Andenne at the invitation of Eugène Losson. Ahead of his time and sometimes misunderstood, he distinguished himself in his determination to renew the art of ceramics in Belgium. His art is omnipresent in the urban landscape, especially in Brussels and Andenne.
