Plaster sculpture by the Dutch artist Corneille, a founding member of the Cobra movement in the late 1940s. After moving towards abstraction (abstract landscape painting) following the breakup of the Cobra group in 1951, Corneille returned to figurative art in the early 1960s. Impressed by the lushness of nature in some of the countries he visited (Africa, South America, Mexico, etc.), he rediscovered the expressionist and passionate vocabulary of the Cobra period. In his later works, imbued with lyricism, the woman (who, in the artist's language, represents the earth), the bird (the masculine element and the artist himself), the sun and the serpent (symbols of the female and male sexes), as well as the cat, are omnipresent.

The piece dates from 1999 and is numbered 6/99.
