Simonet frères
A very rare pair of authentic 1930 French art deco wall sconces. Nickel plated solid brass or bronze mounts hold beautiful slip shades in patinated clear frosted moulded-pressed glass.
Simonet started in the 19th century as a company specialized in gilt bronze decorations for furniture candlesticks gaz lamps, etc. In 1919 just after the first worldwar the brothers Charles and Robert Simonet re-opened the workshops and store of their father (downtown Paris, 60 rue des Archives). The company finaly closed its door in 1970. During the art deco era the sculptor and designer Henri Dieupart (1888-1928) created numerous vases as well as some lampshades and mounts, edited by Simonet freres. The glass vases and shades were produced by the Cristallerie Choisy-le-Roi. The rare art deco lamps by Simonet frères are nowadays sought after items that make high prices at auctionhouses. Similar to Genet & Michon, Lalique, Brandt , Ruhlmann.
At the back the mounts are signed Simonet frères. This wonderful model shade is never signed. It is extremely rare. I only saw a chandelier with six of these shades once. A friend of mine with a posh shop in Paris had it and sold it in no time for 110K. The sconces I never saw before. A small chandelier can be seen in an advertisement I found in an old 1928 designers magazine.
The sconces are 13,4 cm high (5-9/32) 15 cm wide (5,9) and 18,5 cm deep (7-9/32 inches). They are in very good condition. I have renickeled and patinated the mounts. The ussual very small chips and hairlines common for 100 y/o shades. Nothing disturbing or distracting. The fixtures come rewired. For the USA Canada or Japan I will wire them with American candelabra base sockets. For European countries I placed E14 ones. So you can use our normal modern light bulbs.
The wall lights will be shipped by priority mail. Safely packed and fully insured. Free shipping offered for Belgium France Holland or Germany. A pick up in Rotterdam is possible as well.
