This elegant Etruscan oenochoe is crafted in bucchero nero, a characteristic Etrurian ceramic with a deep, glossy black color.
Its pear-shaped body extends into a narrow neck, adorned with discreet decorative incisions, and opens onto a refined trefoil spout.
Bucchero nero is a typical Etruscan ceramic, recognizable by its glossy black surface, obtained not by the application of a glaze, but by a reductive firing process. This type of ceramic, often reserved for ritual or aristocratic use, sometimes imitates metallic forms and reflects a high level of technical mastery. Produced as early as the 7th century BC, it reached its peak in the 6th century, before gradually declining. Incised, embossed or relief decoration often enhances the elegant, balanced shapes of these vases.
Etrurian period, late 7th to early 6th century B.C.
Height 26.7 cm - Width: approx. 16 cm.
Conservation: Discreet restoration at the lip and a slight chip at the base.
Provenance: Belgian private collection formed between 1970 and 1990 by Mr. C. D.
