Porcelain dish by James Rizzi, ‘City People'.
Published by Rosenthal Studio-Linie (Germany), circa 1980, this porcelain plate is numbered 694/1500. In perfect condition, it comes with its original Rosenthal box and certificate of authenticity.
This plate, evoking a colourful kaleidoscope, features an Art Deco-inspired Manhattan skyscraper, a reference to New York, a city dear to the artist. The theme of ‘The Big Apple' is revisited through towers with laughing faces, combining modernity with references to Amerindian totem poles. This joyful atmosphere extends to the characters around the plate, bringing a human warmth to the urban universe.

Biography of James Rizzi:
James Rizzi (1950-2011), American Pop Art painter, is known for his colourful and stylised works depicting urban scenes, often inspired by his native New York. Born in Brooklyn, he studied fine art at the University of Florida, where he developed a unique 3D graphic technique combining painting, engraving and sculpture.
Revealed to the public in 1974 at an exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, his naive and playful style quickly won over museums and galleries around the world. His work extends to the design of everyday objects such as telephone cards, CD covers and limited editions of accessories.
James Rizzi left a lasting imprint on Pop Art, and was also involved with a number of charities. Until his death in 2011, he lived and worked in a studio-loft in SoHo, Manhattan.
