Rare sculpture with light fixture in the center. In working condition.
Bruno Zach (1891-1935) was an Austrian Art Deco sculptor of Ukrainian origin (Jytomyr) who worked from the early to mid-twentieth century. His output included a wide repertoire of genre subjects, but Zach was best known for his erotic sculptures of young women.
Bruno Zach emigrated to Austria in his youth and studied at the Vienna Academy with sculptors Hans Bitterlich (1860-1949) and Josef Müllner (1879-1968). His styles included art deco, art nouveau, orientalism and sports subjects.
Zach became a prolific creator of sculptures of tall, athletic and dominant women in bronze and ivory, known as "chryselephantines".
Bruno Zach usually signed his work "Zach", "B. Zach" or "Bruno Zach", but a number of his pieces were signed with his pseudonyms, "Prof. Tuch", "Professor Tuch" or "K. Salat". His erotic sculptures generally depicted sexy, dreamy, scantily-clad women wearing stockings, garters and high heels.
One of Zach's best-known sculptures is "La Cravache". His bronze sculptures were usually patinated, but could sometimes be cold-painted or polychromed.
