This rare wooden sculpture by Marcel Wolfers is signed with the gold stamp of Marcel Wolfers. A unique piece, the sculpture with its metal base measures 26cm.
Biography:
Marcel Wolfers was born into a family of artists established in Brussels. His grandfather Louis Wolfers (1820-1892) and his father Philippe (1858-1929)2 were talented artists who worked in a wide variety of media, including ceramics, goldsmithing and sculpture. At the end of the nineteenth century, Marcel became one of the most prominent artists in the Art Deco style. Marcel Wolfers studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, where he was a pupil of the artist Isidore De Rudder (1855-1943), who also trained his father Philippe. There, Marcel developed his talents as a sculptor, ceramist, goldsmith and lacquerworker.
He contributed to the Brussels World Fair in 1958, as artistic director of Wolfers-Frères for the design of the goldsmiths' and silversmiths' works presented there.
