Pair of magnificent bronze plates signed by Gustave Doré depicting Jean qui rit and Jean qui pleure. In perfect condition. Diameter 22cm Gustave Doré was born in Strasbourg in 1832, and was a French illustrator, caricaturist, painter, lithographer and sculptor. He came to sculpture late, in 1878, after perfecting his painting skills. Some of his sculptures can be found in the Musee d'Orsay.
