Born in 1886 in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean (Brussels), Pierre de Soete was put to work at the age of eight. Unfortunately for him, life was not kind to him, as he was orphaned at the age of fourteen.
He decided to enroll at the Molenbeek Academy of Drawing. At the same time, he taught himself to model in clay. To support himself, Pierre de Soete had to find work. And it was these odd jobs that changed the course of his life. Indeed, in 1900 he found himself in the polishing workshop of the Compagnie des Bronzes in Brussels. He was promoted and put in charge of the fitter's workshop, where he saw sculptures by Julien Dillens, Constantin Meunier and Jef Lambeaux pass through his hands. He took advantage of the opportunity to observe the works of these great sculptors, which fueled his passion for sculpture. He then decided to become a sculptor, taking a short introduction to drawing at the Molenbeek Academy. In 1911, a bronze foundry in Anderlecht entrusted him with the management of one of its departments.
