Maurice MUSIN « Autumn storm » painting oil on panel

Painter, sculptor. Trained at the Académie de Liège. Women, children and horses are his most important sources of inspiration. Initially influenced by Mambour and Expressionism, his figures are monumental. Gradually, his style became softer, corners were rounded, positions softened, and he arrived at a kind of poetic symbolism. His compositions with figures convey serenity, dreams, lyricism and sometimes fantasy, often bathed in an unreal light. Around 1980, he turned to sculpture, where he treated the same themes as in his painting. His first sculpture was a "Cheval de fête avec chevalier" in bronze. In the press: "Little by little - from plaster and wax to clay and bronze - M.M. has been able to reduce a subject close to his heart to its essentials. Knight and horse are united not only by the festive character, but also by graceful movement, solidity and clarity of line, approaching oriental simplicity". J. Parisse, 1980) In 1969, he became professor of painting at the Académie de Liège. Works in museums in Liège, Brussels and Verviers.
