Boquet Jean' Belgian painter 'Geometric abstraction' painting oil on canvas

Jean Boquet was a Belgian painter born in Brussels in 1908. He died there in 1976. He trained as an artist at the Academie de Molenbeek-St-Jean, the town of his birth. He began his artistic career in a figurative style strongly influenced by neo-expressionism. Later, he evolved towards a more stripped-down style, with more geometrically structured landscapes based mainly on the use of triangles and strong colors. As time went by, these increasingly synthetic landscapes led him episodically to totally abstract creations. This is exactly the case with the work I'm offering for sale. It's a large-scale oil on canvas, probably dating from the 1960s. It's a very unusual piece from the very limited series of his rare totally abstract works. It features his fetish geometric form, the triangle, and his use of pure, sustained hues. This work exudes harmony, both stylistically and chromatically. It is framed in its original studio frame. It is in very good condition, with only the slightest traces of use, and its colors are still very fresh. This is a work of fine quality, as rare as it is decorative. It is signed lower left.
