Female painters in Ghent born 1875 -1877 died 1945. In 1914 Marie Maeterlinck and Louise Coupé. fled to Holland until 1918. Louise remained active, so that we can now speak of a 'Hague' period in her oeuvre. Louise Coupé regularly entrenched herself in Villa 'Minouche' in Knokke-Heist. Louise Coupé had specialized in flowers and still lifes. Initially, however, she got no further than the reproduction of reality, later she learned to play with colors, which gradually seemed to become the main goal of her work. Louise Coupé also had her studio in the Pand in Ghent.Louise Coupé also already shared her home with two unmarried sisters, Marie and Cécile. After the death of Cécile, Marie, together with the maid moved to Sint-Amandsberg. Louise went to live in the Lievestraat in Ghent, where she died two years later. Frans Mortelmans had a great influence on Louis Coupé as a teacher.
