Felelo Nkusu, born in 1914 in the enclave of Kabinda (now DRC), is considered one of the doyens of modern Congolese painting. After working in customs in Matadi, he turned to painting in 1945, revealing a spontaneous and expressive talent.
His work, marked by a warm palette and scenes imbued with everyday life or biblical symbolism, reflects the richness of African culture.
Nkusu has taken part in major artistic events:
1958 - Brussels Universal Exhibition.
1966 - Dakar World Festival of Black Arts.
1970 - Exhibition of Zairean art in Brussels.
He has also been honored with several solo exhibitions, notably at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Kinshasa, and in 1978 received the Palme d'Or from AICA/Zaire for his career.
His works are now on the international market, prized by collectors for their intensity and originality.
