From a collection in Namur, acquired from Galerie Colorfield.
Biography:
Robert Sgarra discovered painting at the age of 13. A self-taught artist, he was influenced by the great masters of painting.
It is difficult to describe - without necessarily being reductive - this singular artist, whose work is so dense and imaginative.
This insatiable creative artist, who is both a sculptor and a painter, has a broad, mastered and accomplished technique at the service of a flamboyant inspiration. Generous in his pictorial expression, imaginative in his sculptures, Sgarra baffles the purists, such is the extent to which his creativity can be dazzling and the next moment poised, unexpected, or even classical.
Sorcerer of matter, unclassifiable painter? In Robert Sgarra's work, Pop'Art and Fauvist colourism are cheerfully revisited in inventive, daring and sometimes monumental works. Sgarra varies the shapes and colours, depending on his mood and humour, but always with the same passion that haunts him.
In the 90s, he produced works based on collages, paintings and his work with stone. These works sometimes took the form of trophies, popular with celebrities such as Zidane, Luis Fernandez, Patrick Viera, Baresi, Karpov, Pinna, etc.
A few years later, he continued his work in other media (metal, aluminium), influenced by Pop and Street Art.
As a perfect director, he dared to use colours to the extreme, delivering a rare creative alchemy of indefinable emotional moments.
1999 Grand Prix and Gold Medal for a sculpture in San-Remo.
2005: Sgarra creates a trophy to reward the winner of the famous week-long chess match between world champions Karpov and Etienne Bacrot at the Palais des Festivals.
2006: He meets BB King in New York to present him with a painting inspired by Cubism.
