James Rizzi is best known for his 3D works, particularly his large and elaborate cityscapes. His work often focuses on his native New York and its inhabitants. His creations are mostly in a naive style, in very colourful tones.
Biography:
James Rizzi is an American Pop Art painter.
James Rizzi was born in Brooklyn, New York on 5 October 1950. He studied fine arts at the University of Florida in Gainesville (Florida), where he focused on painting, engraving and sculpture, while developing 3D graphics techniques, which he used frequently. After completing his studies, in 1974, he presented his work to the public for the first time at the Brooklyn Museum in New York.
As his popularity grew, galleries and museums became increasingly interested in his work. James Rizzi then diversified his activities, participating in the creation of visuals for CD covers and the design of everyday objects such as telephone cards.
James Rizzi has won numerous awards, making him a popular pop art artist.
James Rizzi was also involved on several occasions with charities.
Until his death, he lived and worked in a studio-loft in SoHo, south of Manhattan. He died on 26 December 2011 in Manhattan, New York.
