Philippe Geluck, born May 7, 1954 in Brussels, is a Belgian artist. Best known as the author of the Le Chat comic strip series, he is also an actor, writer, painter and sculptor, and has appeared on several television programs as a columnist, notably in collaboration with Michel Drucker in Vivement dimanche prochain and with Laurent Ruquier, notably as a member of Les Grosses Têtes on RTL. On March 3, 1983, commissioned by the French-language Belgian daily Le Soir, he created Le Chat, the comic strip character that would make him famous].
Since his first publication in Le Soir on March 22, 1983, his success has spread beyond the borders of his native country and the French-speaking world. In October 2003, for the twentieth anniversary of Le Chat, Geluck staged a “monumental“ exhibition at the école Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris, next to the Louvre: the exhibition occupied 900 m2 and was staged on a grand scale. It included a giant pencil, 30 m long, which housed three rooms. On display are drawings of Le Chat and watercolors. Between March 26 and June 9, 2021, twenty giant bronze statues of the Cat are on display along the Avenue des Champs-élysées in Paris]. The exhibition, entitled Le Chat déambule, will then travel to a dozen French and European cities. Each statue, which can be made in duplicate, sells for between 300,000 and 400,000 euros. The exhibition reaches Brussels in March 2023. By then, some 25 statues have been sold. Wikipedia
