Czech artist born in Hradec Králové in 1941. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where he taught sculpture for several decades. His work, at the crossroads of figuration, fantasy and expressionism, explores the human condition through hybrid, mythological or allegorical figures. Active in both sculpture and printmaking, his engravings address universal themes such as desire, sacrifice, and the duality of good and evil. The Faust engraving (1987) is part of this symbolic exploration, depicting the pact with the devil as a metaphor for the pursuit of youth and knowledge.
