François Franck (1872-1932) was an antique dealer, decorator, furniture designer and manufacturer, and a great patron of the arts (including James Ensor). The reputation of the Maison Franck can be attributed mainly to François' creative spirit, finesse and talent. The Carey tortoises, now protected, are among the most beautiful. It was at this time that Antwerp established its reputation for producing tortoiseshell cabinets. François Franck is following in the tradition of these craftsmen with his red tortoiseshell furniture.
