François Pycke, also known as Frans Pycke, was born in 1890 in Ghent, where he quickly began studying art at the local academy. At this academy, Pycke was taught by the famous Belgian painter Jean Delvin, among others. His paintings, often orientalist in style, were strongly inspired by his travels in the south. He also depicted many other subjects, including portraits, landscapes, still lifes and urban views. His 20th-century paintings are characterised by an extensive colour palette, perhaps inspired by Fauvism, and grandiose lighting effects. His works are now on display in various locations, including the Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent and the Museum of Deinze and the Leie Region. The 19th-century artist François Pycke died in 1960 at the age of 70 in his hometown of Ghent.
