Nicolas BINSFELD "The sleeping beauty naked" painting acrylic on canvas

Nicolas Binsfeld has become a master of figurative art. Trained at the Académie des Beaux-Arts de Charleroi, this artist dabbled in all styles before arriving at the world of Renaissance painters. Illustrator for the Revue universitaire de Genève, he even tried his hand at comics, in 1995, with "Jimena" (Aire Libre). Completely realized in oil paint, this work comprises 256 paintings.
Influenced by poetry, science, death, life and women, his works border on the dreamlike. They are known as "flying machines" or "androcephalic sarcophagi". Listed in dictionaries of Belgian painters, Nicolas Binsfeld was recently the subject of a monograph entitled "Binsfeld", published by Art in Belgium.
Born in Wiltz, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, in 1945, Nicolas Binsfeld had already exhibited in many parts of Europe, demonstrating a succession of different impulses. He gave the female presence, evoked with precision and discretion, a predominant place in his work. A skilful and sensitive draughtsman, and a colorist of very good taste, he will win you over with the exceptional quality of his approach in a field where complacency or provocative realism are also frowned upon by the amateur. His painting is very fluid, and the delicate lines are often lost in a kind of companionable fog which, veiling certain body parts, reduces attitudes to quick but sufficient indications. This elegant figuration is frequently expressed "between the waist and the chin", the rest being simply retracted or drowned in a light smear.
