Copyright 1933 by L. Icart. STY. NY
Good condition, some traces of an old varnish visible on the slope, small hole in the upper margin.
Listed: Collective, Louis Icart The Complete Etchings, USA, Schiffer Publishing, 2015 (page 202).
After studying business, Louis Icart pursued an artistic career. In 1907, he moved to Paris to work with his aunt, who owned the Valmont fashion house. Trained as an engraver, he then participated in various salons and achieved a certain success, which allowed him to exhibit his work in galleries in Paris and New York in the 1920s. His style blended the elegance of the 18th-century French masters with the flamboyance of the Roaring Twenties. His depiction of women combined sensuality, humor, and a touch of eroticism.
