Pronocrates 2.0:

This work reflects human duality: both beast and spirit, torn between ‘lower' and ‘higher' instincts, human beings are constantly seeking enlightenment and redemption. But are we alone in this quest? Do animals also have souls and seek the divine?

For Félicien Rops, the answer was clear. Pigs are traditionally associated with impurity. Focused on the earthly, bestial and submissive, they do not raise their eyes to the sky, thus becoming satanic allies of the lascivious woman. The femme fatale of his Pornocrates, guided by a pig, embodies a mysterious and seductive heavenly being, driven by immodest, carnal and demonic desires.

Tatjana, meanwhile, tends the pigs of the Bereklauw commune. She does not allow herself to be led by them, but like a modern Joan of Arc, she addresses them with inspired words, as if she were a true Messiah and they her apostles. Will she succeed in showing them the light? Will she succeed in including them in her redemption, or is her quest in vain?

Bart Ramakers - Mythologies for a new world.

Belgian photographer and director Bart Ramakers has been creating narrative and visually powerful works since 2009, inspired by mythology, classical painting and contemporary issues. His photographs, staged like living tableaux, revisit founding narratives - religious, ancient or cultural - to inject them with contemporary issues: gender, power, ecology, freedom, consumerism.

Trained in drawing and history, Ramakers first worked in communications before devoting himself entirely to visual art. He works with a team of stylists, models, sculptors and make-up artists, constructing a universe that blends irony, beauty and social criticism.

His notable projects include Revelations (2018), The Bride Unveiled (2021) and Flora and the Water Warriors, in collaboration with William Sweetlove. His work also includes videos and installations.

Exhibited at numerous festivals and galleries in Belgium, France, and the Netherlands, Bart Ramakers offers a spectacular and engaging reinterpretation of our visual culture. Through his creations, he invents new mythologies: poetic, provocative, and deeply human.
