Paul Wunderlich studied at the Beaux-Arts in Hamburg (1947-1951), and in turn became a teacher, in particular at the Hamburg School of Fine Arts (1963-1968), after an initial stay in Paris (1960-1963).
He settled permanently in Paris in 1981, and was elected correspondent to the Académie des Beaux-Arts (Engraving section) on May 27 of the same year.
He is also a member of the Académie royale des sciences, des lettres et des beaux-arts de Belgique and of the Freie Akademie der Künste in Hamburg.
