Magnificent antique sitar from northern India, entirely handmade between 1910 and 1930, probably in Varanasi or Calcutta. An instrument of exceptional quality, intact and 100% original.

Features :

Wood: Body and neck in solid ebony, unvarnished, finished with natural oil.

Inlays: Decorations in carved bone, fixed with small copper nails.

Strings: Copper frets, original strings made of natural gut (catgut).

Plaque: Natural dried gourd, perfectly preserved.

Finish: No trace of varnish or lacquer, purely oiled surface.

Condition: remarkable for its age - no restoration, all parts are original. The patina of the wood and the inlays bear witness to more than a century of musical history.

Estimated period: around 1915-1930.

Origin: northern India (Benares or Calcutta school).

Materials: ebony, bone, copper, natural gut, gourd.

Dimensions: approximately 122 cm long.

Indicative value: collector's item, rare museum piece.
