Laughing boy in bronze terracotta after Desiderio Da Settignano. He was born into a family of stonemasons in the village of Settignano, a suburb of Florence from which he takes his name. His two brothers, Francesco and Gerri, were themselves sculptors. He studied sculpture in the workshop of Bernardo Rossellino, who was to influence him greatly. He died in 1464, aged around 34.
