Oil on panel by Evariste Carpentier, signed. Evariste Carpentier, born in 1845 in Kuurne and died in 1922 in Liège, was a Belgian painter of historical scenes, genre scenes, and animated landscapes. Over the years, his painting evolved from academic art in his early work towards Impressionism. He was, along with Émile Claus, one of the first representatives of Luminism in Belgium. Carpentier enjoyed considerable success during his lifetime. Throughout his career, he received numerous awards and prizes at international exhibitions in Europe and the United States (Chicago, Philadelphia, etc.), including gold medals in Antwerp, Munich, Berlin for Summer Sun (1896), Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona, and Nice. Forgotten shortly after his death, his work was rediscovered late in the 20th century.
