HATE, Désiré (Ixelles, 1900 - Auderghem, 1990)
Painter, graphic artist, watercolorist, draftsman (charcoal). Trained in architecture, drawing, painting, then studied surveying at the Academies of Ixelles (1916-1917) and Brussels (1920-1921). At 50, he still took classes with Ch. Swyncop at the Academy of Ixelles. Predilection for portraits, figures, compositions, landscapes, still lifes, flowers and interiors. Synthesized reality by purifying his subjects to geometry. Colorful and optimistic palette. His works are characterized by their serenity, poetry and symbolism. Lived and worked in the Netherlands, Germany and France. Settled in Auderghem in 1947. Founder of the Ecole Paysagiste du Rouge-Cloître, co-founder of the "Artis Bruxellae" Group. Collaborates with A. Bastien. Mentioned in BAS I and in "Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists". Bibl: the dictionary of visual artists of Belgium of the 19th and 20th centuries. Paul PIRON
