Guillaume EDELINE (Namur 1902-Chairière 1987)

Oil on canvas by the painter Guillaume Edeline born in Namur in 1902 and died in Chairière, commune of Vresse-sur-Semois in 1987.
He was born on July 13, 1902 in Namur into a family of Tournai origin. His father being a soldier, he was accustomed from a very young age to successive moves linked to the requirements of the army. Thus, he spent his youth first in Namur, then in Bruges in 1919. Mortehan.
He then entered as a public servant in the civil service, devoting his evenings to taking courses at the academy of St-Josse-ten-Noode.
He then became professor of drawing at the Royal Athenaeum, first in Chimay, then in Bouillon in 1924.
In 1930, he was transferred to the Athénée de Ixelles. It was during these years spent in the capital that he entered the artistic circle L'Art libre where he rubbed shoulders with many artists such as Counhaye, Paulus, Tytgat, Wansart, Wolvens but also Raty and Howet, who would become close friends.
At the start of the war, he asked to be temporarily transferred to Bouillon.
In the Ardennes, he then found his way in the landscapes.
He died in 1987.
