Gérard GRIBAUMONT "Ardenne or Gaume landscape" painting oil on canvas

Gérard Gribaumont was born in 1951 in Saint-Mard, a small Gaumais village that is part of the commune of Virton. A graphic designer by profession, he is a self-taught painter. He took part in a number of group exhibitions until 1991. He then exhibited his work in solo shows. He also collaborates with well-known galleries in Brussels, Liège, Bruges and abroad. His work: Self-taught, he expresses himself fully in oil paint. At first, large black strokes frame his canvas, on a support previously covered with a dark tint. The drawing is initially very realistic, then becomes more dreamlike. It was then that his imagination took over, and he began to think of himself as a maker of images, of shapes, colors and light... His shapes are well-defined, his colors rather dark, and his characters caricatural. Gérard Gribaumont's art is influenced by Camille Barthélémy, and some of his paintings can be compared to those of Milo Dardenne, where the artist emphasizes action and accomplished work. Always in search of novelties, between the real and the unreal, he interprets. Painting is a feast for the eyes, designed to arouse emotion in the beholder.
