Impressionist painting by Laszlo Pataky Von Sospatak, a 19th century Hungarian painter.
Painting representing a wild ride or animated cavalcade, a parade of chariots and riders, a three-horse team "à l'évêque" also known as "en troïka".
Oil on wood panel, signed "Pataky" in the lower left corner and dated '83 for 1883.
In perfect condition.
Biography:
László Pataky von Sospatak (1857, Brád - 1912, Alvinc) was a Hungarian painter specialising in rural genre scenes.
He studied first at the Budapest School of Arts and Crafts and then, from 1880, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Karl von Piloty as his main instructor. He continued his training in Paris and from 1883 to 1889 travelled between Paris, Budapest and Munich.
In 1888 he was awarded a scholarship for his painting "The Messenger", which enabled him to study with Mihály Munkácsy. In addition to working in his studio, he helped him create his monumental painting, "The Hungarian Conquest", for the Hungarian Parliament.
Important retrospectives of his work were organised in 1913 by the St George's Guild and in 1918 by the Hall of Art. Many of his works are in the collection of the Hugarian National Gallery.
